Pros

Interesting work (applied policy analysis); chance to inform policymaker decisions; flexible work from home policy.

Cons

Coverage system makes finding billable hours onerous, inefficient, and chaotic--and looking for work often requires researchers to do the equivalent of an annual job search internally, and unpaid, while they are already working full-time on current fiscal year projects. This system is not a pure market. Management intervenes to help some people but not others.

Great people, bad organization

Pros

Incredibly talented people across the house

Cons

Leadership is way behind the times, and lacks any strategic vision for the organization. Widespread issues with pay disparities, and real issues in advancement for women and POC.

Pros

I don't have anything good to say about working at RAND.

Cons

Horrible management! And you're treated like garbage if you don't have a PhD. Admin Assistants are overworked, underpayed and not appreciated.
