Pros

If you have a strong research portfolio, or are a programmer interested in policy research, you'll have opportunities. Administration is an afterthought.

Cons

Administration is not highly valued. Career growth in this flat organization is difficult for administrative positions. If you're not interested in increasing responsibility and just want to stay where you are, this can be OK.

Pros

RAND is a great company that has meaningful impact on the world. Their pay is decent, the benefits are fantastic, and you could have the opportunity to meet and work with many great people.

Cons

Not a great place to work if you're an IT Professional. Senior management in IT trusts nobody and treats long time employees with proven track records like children.

Some good, some bad

Pros

Smart people, interesting work, nice offices, strong reputation, culture of excellence.

Cons

Virtually no career path in most roles. People are actually discouraged from trying to move up. You may need to leave in order to grow professionally. Lots of internal competition among colleagues and peers. Minimal access to professional development training. Financial stress on many projects, leading people to sometimes work long hours without corresponding pay. Little racial and ethnic diversity. The recent reorganization was poorly executed, and some of the leadership is not competent to handle their new responsibilities.
