Pros

I really enjoyed my co-workers at REI. There was no one I worked with who I actively dis-liked, and I'd call most of my co-workers friends.

Cons

The company does not treat its employees well. Starting salaries are low, benefits are limited, and work hours have been drastically cut. I was cut back to working 16 hours/week before I quit, and on $17.80/hr, that gets you nowhere. The company projects an outward image of being responsible, sustainable, and progressive, but behind closed doors, it's just like every other massive American corporation.

Pros

Decent pay for retail. Non-manager coworkers were nice. Prodeal and discounts are good.

Cons

Management does very little to teach before throwing you in full force and punishes you for imperfection even though you just started. Never tell them you have open availability unless you want to be scheduled doing difficult shift hours nobody else wanted. If you're disabled, forget working here. After requesting accommodations, if the managers don't like you they stick you on work where you can't use your accommodations. Managers pick favorites and will single out and target employees they don't like Seasonal employees are treated poorly and criticized harshly by managers.

Pros

There are great people who work there and the pay/ benefits is good for entry level retail work

Cons

Managers are union busting and willfully ignorant to harassment that happens in front of their eyes. The company as a whole is not a true or legal “Cooperative” , 99% of Employees have no equity or control over business decisions. Every department is understaffed but they refuse to hire more people or offer real training- and they lie about annual budgets. They manipulate you by referencing “Rei Policies” that do not even exist.
