Pros

The London office has a great location. The people are nice, but it takes a year to be accepted. Pay is not too bad considering there is no formal pay structure; if you are at executive level you will be compensated very well.

Cons

There is a stuffy silent culture in the head office, it is ruled with fear by a CEO who shows zero interest in his employees. There is rarely a word of thanks and definitely no recognition for a job well done. Staff feel undervalued and overworked, yet more and more is expected of them year on year. There is no flexibility or room to slip up, every I MUST be dotted and every T crossed or all hell breaks loose - there is no pareto's principle here! The focus on the minutiae is misplaced in my opinion.

Pros

"an excellent starting package with pension and medical.

Cons

The IT division RETS (reed Elsevier technology services) is almost all run from the US so the UK is treated like a poor offshoot, poor training if any causing a general de skilling of UK IT staff over time, no bonuses, a 3% cap on pay rises although 2% in more common, a promotion path that is totally unworkable leaving people undervalued.
