Pros
Company is growing quite fast, and is a defense contractor, which I think is pretty impressive for a company this small. Great/lean management, very focused on getting features out. Fast paced, can learn lots of things. The possibility of getting a security clearance and the company being located at Nasa Research Park may appeal to some. Lots of hiring during pandemic. Decent benefits: 401K 4% matching; health/dental/vision insurance premiums are all covered. 5k relocation reimbursement as a standard policy. Up to $10k bonus/year
Cons
Biggest cons are the low pay and long hours. Low pay, grossly under market rate. Despite the increase growth (in both company size and the areas of work), the pay isn’t reflecting that at all. Take a look at the salaries section. From asking around, new grad devs offer is <= $90k for bay area, as such, experienced devs also has low pay vs market rate. No stocks/options, this is a private company, I don’t think this company will ever go public Sometimes have to be on-call to work overtime during weekdays/weekends. I’ve also worked during federal holidays. But other times, chill days, not much tasks to do, so I guess it balances out somewhat. But I would rather not have OT/crunch time in general. But I guess that’s how a DoD contractor company works; work is based around the client’s needs/schedules. Not a lot of senior technical devs. Most devs seems to be at the company for <= 2 yrs and several are new grads. Because of the startup nature, not much code review, mostly concerned with delivering features to clients. Though some things are optimized/cared after, such as loading times. But we do test our products. Not really a con: This company has been around for almost 10years yet still call itself a startup. Currently ~50 employees.
