Sad to Watch it Burn

Pros

I worked at Recovery Innovations for 13 years as a full time employee. I had my fair share of challenges with average pay and benefits, some inexperienced and poor management/leadership, and feeling pretty nervous when people got suddenly let go for what seemed like fickleness on the part of the upper management. But honestly, we were doing something very special and important. We were pushing the boundaries of behavioral health care in ways that were truly innovative and wonderful. There was a beautiful way of keeping records--more like adding chapters to a story than clinical notes. There were college credited classes for people who were currently homeless. There were people with serious mental illnesses gaining wonderful work experience and providing unique supportive services to others based on their extremely valuable lived experiences with recovery. We were writing and speaking and creating and growing like crazy. It was a time and a successful effort that was unmatched. People came to see what we were doing from all over the world. It was incredible, really.

Cons

I don't know what happened other than that a new CEO came in and shifted the working mission to suicide prevention and stabilization. The language and culture shifted in a highly clinical mode and all the work we did to create a beautiful environment was just decimated. The vision was lost. The talented and dedicated people were all lined up and fired. New folks with no appreciation of the mission or history or of recovery culture were hired and the boat has been sinking ever since. It is such a horrible thing to watch. I must say that I feel genuine grief. I am sorry for what was lost. Hopefully, others who lit their flames from the Recovery Innovations of the past are still going strong and will carry the message and the good work forward. The aim was true.

Stressed Out to Tears

Pros

Benefits package, 401k, medical, vision, and dental coverage; lots of training; mandatory, as well as elective, giving the illusion that this is a great place to work.

Cons

Constantly feeling like you're walking on egg shells, got dragged into the office for "Coaching" aka, chewing-out session, every time I turned around. got so stressed out that I became physically ill at the thought of returning to work and had to call in sick; got chewed out for "abandoning" my shift. No true care or consideration for the welfare of staff, unless you're a major brown-nose who kisses up to the upper management (leads, and/or higher-ups). Total disregard for the employees' physical and/or mental limitations; requiring them to do things that are extremely difficult; telling them to "figure it out" and do them anyway. Then firing the employee for not performing job duties as required.

Pros

If you would like an opportunity to challenge your morals, ethics, and beliefs this is a great place for growth! Daily you will be faced with concerns for your safety, the safety of those around you. You will be taken for granted until you learn to stand up for yourself and others and say "No more"! You will grow here!

Cons

The pay, the benefits, the deception by administration, the lack of staff and high turnover, the safety, and concern for anything other than $. The black mold in the shower room, the inability to provide adequate care to the individuals who are accepted with medical issues. The fact that ANY petition is acceptable by the providers. The unhealthy communication that particular providers have with the patients or lack of communication. The retaliation from providers toward patients when the provider feels disrespected! For god sake, the guest is sick!!! The back biting and drama of the unhealthy individuals and supervisors. The lack of respect for the SMI population as human beings period! This organization had become the epitome of exploiting the SMI population for a profitable gain! Do yourself a favor and steer clear.
