Pros

RTI has a compelling mission (To improve the human condition by turning knowledge into practice) and staff are very dedicated to fulfilling it through their work. Incredible benefits and opportunities for professional development.

Cons

RTI is so broad, diverse, and large for a research institute, it can often feel like a university because each group has a lot of autonomy and tends to act independently of each other.

The people are great and the research is interesting although it can be isolating at times to work as a consultant.

Pros

Great location. Competitive compensation. Great people. Interesting research and work. Opportunities to work in other research areas and especially in international work.

Cons

There is a bit of a coorporate culture that tends to permeate and stifle innovation and creativity. This is not ideal for research, especially health research. Not a lot of interaction between employees in the office so the office can be isolating. Antiquated computer systems.

Pros

RTI takes time to orient staff and continually offers on line programs to satisfy requirements for advancement. Local and expat staff were treated fairly.

Cons

Sometimes a coterie of senior staff made decisions without getting input from the other senior staff members. As in many organizations involved in intrnational work, the home office was not always aware of field realities.
