Pros

RTI maintains some considerable semblance of being an academic institution, and a non-profit, despite being a very revenue-driven place. Work conditions are very flexible; you can work from home, telecommute from abroad, etc. You can now take up to three weeks of unpaid leave in addition to fairly generous paid leave. You can work with very little supervision and a lot of responsibility.

Cons

Rather bureaucratic and slow; geared to large research projects. Some of the support staff do low-quality work. Very revenue-driven for a non-profit. Difficult to work across different parts of the organization.

Great internship!

Pros

RTI International internships are a great way to network with senior executives and develop skills outside of academic training. Work load is heavy but fair, and the responsibilities given allowed me to feel as if I was part of a team rather than just the "intern."

Cons

Sometimes the work involves sitting in front of a computer for days on end, but this really depends on the division/unit the internship is with.

Pros

Stability, salary, benefits, work hours flexibility. The ability (limited) to work from different locations

Cons

Lack of advancement opportunities, lack of interesting work, boring environment and a complete lack of "integration" activities. You can spend your days in your office/cubicle without ever doing true teamwork (and no, 'team meetings' do not count as 'teamwork')
