Pros

Company has some great people and fantastic learning opportunities. The company has some very strong and talented individuals that can be great to work with. There is a lot to learn at this company in many areas. Their course portfolio and commitment to continuing development is fantastic. Very good work life balance. Outstanding benefits and more than fair compensation and benefits. The company business space and products can be quite inspiring. Developing products to help our warfighters, lends itself to a cultural sense of pride in the work that Raytheon does and it's openly discussed as such. I would recommend this company to a friend depending on what they are looking for from an employer.

Cons

Very politically charged environment. Promotions and advancement seem to be based more on ones political gamesmanship and ability to schmooze within the right circles. An absolute popularity contest. There seems to be numerous lists of people better than the unwashed masses ;-) "Leadership Development Program," "Ninjas," "Presidents Culture Initiative," [insert flavor of the month here]. While these things aren't bad in and of themselves they do betray a cultural sense of exclusivity that is unattainable to most, including many top performers.

Pros

Large company, lots of places to move around.

Cons

Managers have no clue what they are doing. Upper management doesnt know who anyone is. Lots of grand plans, no plan for execution. You are a cog in the machine. There is no loyalty to employees.

Pros

The paychecks clear on time.

Cons

Raytheon IIS has consistently gone downhill in my 10+ years with them, particularly since Lynn Dugal has taken the helm of the business unit. Programs are bid to win the contract, not to appropriately execute the contract. This requires the individual contributor to work an exorbant amount of "casual", or unpaid, overtime. A typical work week on the program I support is ~60 hours and weekend work is sometimes announced on Friday afternoon, as it was this last Easter weekend. Recently the profit sharing plan (a 3% bonus each year) was eliminated. When questioned about how she intended to retain quality personell, Ms. Dugal basically stated the "door is over there"... the top performers are taking her up on that.
