Pros

The compensation is excellent for a new college graduate. The 9/80 schedule cannot be beat. The work life balance is excellent and most senior engineers are willing to work with you to solve complex problems. The current market for Missiles is incredibly strong, so there is plenty of work to do and many ways for a new hire to immediately contribute.

Cons

Too many employees have been there for 25+ years and do not adjust well to change. They find ways to continue doing things inefficiently based on legacy practices learned decades ago. Also, very difficult for an engineer to transition into a business role.

Pros

Stable, family-oriented, 9/80 work week (if you can negotiate this). The programs last for years instead of months like at a commercial company, so people get lost in the long product cycle.

Cons

Lack of creativity, lowered ambition due to long government product cycles. Many smaller sites around the country answer to their divisions massive headquarters. The management at the "top" cannot adequately lead because of the geographic and often cultural differences between sites.
