Pros

Major FTSE 100 company with good benefits. Liked many of the staff and really liked my team

Cons

As with many big companies communication within divisions of RX is hard, but, within Reed Elsevier, in practice it was deliberately blocked by tiers of senior management worried about why they didn't know much about Elsevier and its amazing reputation. Full of career specialist furiously delegating work down. Computers were old as was the software installed.

Not a great place to work, some good points

Pros

Interesting experience across different industries. Most employees are nice people, friendly and easy going. Work environment is casual. Company has nice picnics and other events, team work is encouraged, although the overly political culture can be difficult. Traveling to see wonderful and amazing trade shows is encouraged.

Cons

Compensation is low. Bonuses are not distributed fairly. Excessive amount of politics hinders progress. Senior management not open to new ideas and certain people should not hold the positions they have. The politics are unbearable at times, the truth is not respected, you are expected to follow trade show team procedures even if they make no sense. Level of frustration among workers is obvious. Difficult and unqualified people are promoted while, smart, honest people are overlooked. Ridiculous review process that takes a week to complete every six months and that has no bearing on your actual compensation increases. Pay increases are low and impossible to achieve (1-3 scale where no one receives a 3). Long hours and travel with no comp time is expected. Marketing department is comprised of young women, most of whom have no corporate experience who are either fired or promoted based on personality and popularity instead of skills. Turn over on show teams is significant. Internal promotions are rare unless you are a very political, brown noser, with no original ideas. Technology is limited to corporate restraints and they are not open to using new and emerging technology.
