Pros

They are a good starting point within the industry. The technical grounding and education is sound.

Cons

The work ethos has died. It has become a place simply to do your 40 hours. Don't stick your neck out because it will only be chopped off. Loyalty has dissappeared. Their is no loyalty by the company to the employee so eventually their is no loyalty back to the company or brand. The brand image from days of old is drying up.

Pros

Rain Bird was a good company in which to be a salesperson. My experience there was one in which all of the necessary funding and support was in place to not only secure the business with new customers but also keep existing customers satisfied. In addition to the support, I would be hard pressed to match the level of cammaraderie that I experienced on my sales team. Granted, I know that the same level of teamwork did not exist in all regions, but my experience was a good one. This situation also likely does not exist in present day Rain Bird.

Cons

This is a politically motivated organization unlike any I can recall. Almost all activities, initiatives, and communications are done with the motivation of pleasing a senior manager as opposed to pleasing a customer. Much of this is due to the fact that it is an autocracy run by one man who has a reputation of being a ball buster, and this reputation drives fear throughout the organization. I'm not sure the reputation is deserved. This is an organization that has completely lost touch, trust, and respect of almost all levels of distribution, including those independent distributors that have been loyal customers for decades. A bad situation.
