Amazing Culture and People

Pros

Kobo really invest in their people - tons of events, authors coming to the company to chat about their new book, Wellness Day with fee massages, Yoga classes and Softball tournament, Happy Hours and free coding classes for any employer that wants to improve their skill. Kobo even has their own Toast Master group during work hours! I must say that even though all these activities are fun, the people that work here are the best part of the organization! Tons of smart, engaging and team oriented people in all groups. Love the culture at Kobo.

Cons

Global projects are fun, but sometimes meetings with Japan are a bit late due to the time zone.

Pros

Global opportunities, tech driven organisation, relaxed culture with great perks (long weekends in the summer, monthly Happy hour, bring your dog to work)

Cons

Oversight from Rakuten Japan can be a distraction, highly competitive market (being number 2 to Amazon),

Pros

Overall the company gives good package: Good salary, full Health & Dental benefits, flexible work hours, 3 weeks vacation (4 weeks if you have worked for 5 years), gym discount, perks such as massage therapy, physiotherapy, etc. In addition, the company also offers stock options (though not a significant amount due to the vesting period) and annual bonus (which is not guaranteed). One of the best perk is the extra day off for each of the summer long weekend. This is by far one of the best perks at Kobo.

Cons

The salary area can still be better. There are many companies in Toronto area that offers similar perks as above, but with much higher salary.

Thank you for your feedback! While we do believe that Kobo offers competitive total rewards packages (including salary, bonus, stock and a multitude of other benefits) we do appreciate your comments and will continue to conduct regular compensation benchmarking to ensure we remain competitive.
