Pros

Love the fact that I am surrounded by smart people and I am engaged in international projects in Germany, Ireland, Japan and Canada. The company is constantly bringing book`s author`s to speak about their recent books and there is always a social event every week! This week was Kobo Wellness Day and we had Laughter Yoga and booked massages to any employee in the company. I love the fact that Kobo recognizes that a happy employee is more productive and they value quality of life. Don`t get me wrong, it`s a very fast paced and engaging job, but they know how to balance life/work! I LOVE that!

Cons

It`s open space environment at Kobo and I came from a company where we had cubicles and some privacy. I thought it was odd at first, but now I cannot see myself working in a small square!

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and experiences. We’re so happy to know that you enjoy the environment at Kobo, we work hard to make it a great place to work! While an open office concept can be challenging, we do value the collaboration that it affords us. It can take some getting use to (as you experienced) but we believe it’s worth it in the end. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the CEO welcome meeting, we’ll be sure to keep that initiative going.

Lacking direction and Focus

Pros

Smart people in the trenches, good pay, good perks.

Cons

Weak Leaders who do not provide direction or focus. Constantly changing strategies and direction causes employee to be in a state of constant chaos. Lack of communication from new leadership team on upcoming changes and structure of the company is causing stress and lack of direction for employees.

Pros

- Implements perks to encourage/reward long work hours (free food, games room, gift card draws) - Open concept office encourages interaction - Some departments allow for "title advancement" quickly (however this is often due to the "con" of high turnover)

Cons

- Poor organization/management leads to a lot of wasted time/effort - Long expected work hours (this isn't hidden, though - you know you're signing up for this) - High turnover/burnout - Hiding behind the "Agile Management" label, the company appears completely reactionary; being able to adjust to your competitors is one thing - ignoring issues before they become problems is another - Too quick to promote; although this is listed as a "Pro" above, from a company standpoint, there are too many people in Management roles that don't appear to have any Management skills - Some departments are grossly understaffed, leaving those employees to work hours of unpaid overtime, only to still fall behind
