Not so Rational

Pros

None that come to mind.

Cons

Antiquated technology, no marketing, sketchy management. Poor and condescending culture in which you are micro managed. Surprised this company is still hanging around. Run, don't walk.

Don't bother going there

Pros

Reasonable dev , test , and IT folks (while they last) A product that is theoretically interesting from the POV of how much data it processes If you can stay for six months to a year (so that everyone who started there before you leaves or is fired), you could become important (but don't fly too close to the sun or you will get burned)

Cons

The company is created , run by, and serves lawyers - as a result, the people are treated like disposables (as a lot of law firms have the tendency to do). You will see people fired and walked out the door out of the blue without any concern for the individual There is constant intrigue, drama, and strife even among the established figures in the company. The 'little guys' are just peons that are just used for a while, then disposed of. The technology is mostly crap - a legacy web app, and a boat-load of stored procedures You're constantly under the gun for hard deadlines from customers. Add the crappy software on top that breaks any time it pleases, and you're on call 24/7 Although there is a "dev & test" team in HQ, the real software development happens offshore, and the "dev & test" team are there just for support and maintenance of the legacy system. You will hear "we're growing the team", but it never happens.

Strong technical team and interesting products

Pros

They have a strong technical team and products that are interesting and challenging to work on from a technical point of view. It's a small company, so it's actually possible to work on the full stack. Staff are dedicated, friendly, and very informal. It's a typical, small-company environment, so expect a lot of chances to work on different kinds of projects, to have contact with clients, and to take the initiative to get things done.

Cons

The pace of work can be intense and juggling the various, sometimes unrelated, projects can be stressful. That said, the level of stress is similar to other startup companies of the same size.
