Pros

- The current organization allows you to move around to different projects much easier than at other companies and managers do take personal interests into consideration. - The company has cared about the health of its employees through the pandemic and its actions have shown this. - The majority of people around you are skilled and competent at their jobs. - Depending on where you work in the company the work life balance is good. - The work site in Tucson, AZ allows ample opportunity to network in your career.

Cons

- Recent major cuts to long term employees who are counting on their company pensions. Does not paint a good picture of what company loyalty gets you long term here. - If you have less than 10 years of experience it is very hard to find someone who will help you develop any type of leadership skills. - Recent, pay grade contraction to push back promotions. It has become a lot more competitive to get raises and promotions in general. - Recent cutbacks to health benefits. - Current outlook is that merger culture will slowly become an environment where management is happy if there is a person in a chair rather than matching talent to where they best fit. - Certain benefits the employee has access to are limited by who your manager is. Some will not allow you to use certain benefits.

Pros

Defense work can involve interesting technologies and may involve travel. May require a security clearance, which can improve your job prospects in the engineering field.

Cons

This detachment of the company is extremely small compared to the space/airborne defense companies in El Segundo. There are far fewer projects, so you may be working on developing cutting edge industry tech, or performing maintenance on systems last updated in the 1980s. Some projects may not be very well managed, leading to deadlines with more stress than average. You may get to work on the same project for years, or be suddenly pulled off to something temporary if funding hits a critical level. Work location is clearly meant for new hires looking for their first job or locals looking for stable employment - the majority of employees are college grads or "lifers" that are already closer to retirement. Middle-career employees are scarce due to being able to find much more plentiful jobs and competitive salaries working in Los Angeles or the SF Bay Area.

Pros

Interesting products Innovation is occurring Great customers with fantastic missions

Cons

Promotion going to people based on gender or race, not on performance. Speaking against the culture is seen as an unforgivable sin. Product development processes are out of date and unchangeable. Tools for development, product management, and more are 15 or more years out of date, and with no plan to up date. Management cares more how they are perceived by politicians than actually accomplishing product delivery Annual goals are published in March, yearly review are written in Oct. So you never get recognized or rewarded unless you have a mid year success.
