Management had no direction. Decisions made on a whim, not on logic. Company mired by red tape.

I sincerely wish your work situation had met your expectations. We just received our engagement scores and the category authority and empowerment came in 73% positive and clear and promising direction was 75% positive. Pros

Interesting, challenging work. Positive work culture -- collaborative environment, friendly relationships, and a team environment that celebrates success. MAJOR strides in the past several years to address company's biggest weaknesses: communication, strategic planning, processes, stability, and employee appreciation have all improved hugely. It is an admittedly niche industry, but it's nice to be working on industry-leading solutions even in a niche.

Cons

Don't always do a great job of planning/communicating horizontally across product groups or aligning by shared functional area. Fast-paced, all-hands-on-deck work environment leaves relatively little structured time for training & education.

Thank you for your post. What I like about your advice is that you "want" to learn more about the company strategy. We like to have an executive attend all upcoming town hall meetings and talk about the company and direction which goes right at the heart of your suggestion. That needs to be done and we can tie it back to the engagement survey as well. Noting that you are in Marketing, I will request that for your team. I agree with you about getting out more in the workforce. You will be happy to know that in our future location we will be building a new cafeteria, gym, and additional conference space so everyone can "collide". In past lives, holding informal meetings over lunch onsite played out as a huge benefit. Thanks again, Kurt Twining
