Love the mission but the leadership needs to change.

Pros

- Inspiring vision and mission. - Fast growth startup.

Cons

-The company does an abysmal job of hiring and developing diverse candidates. The leadership talks significantly about being 'proponents of diversity and inclusion,' but their actions hinder the progress of diverse employees. - Since the C level executives and managers are mostly men, mansplaining their direct reports come as second nature. It is indeed a frat boys club as mentioned by other reviewers. It is infuriating to witness one's credibility to be questioned daily. Makes you sincerely self doubt your expertise. - It is painful to see how little the leadership cares and does about the known gender pay gap.

Thank you so much for sharing this feedback. It was painful to read and I'm sorry that you had this experience at Remitly. I care about you as well as Remitly becoming an even more diverse and inclusive workforce, which is why it has been and will continue to be one of our top priorities. I'm pleased that we did transition our Exec Team to be 100% Remitlians that identify as men to 43% people who identify as female and we recently opened a role to hire a senior full time D&I leader to support this work. These are of course just a few steps but D&I is definitely a focus area for me and for the company. I'm sad to hear that you left Remitly. If you'd ever be open to meeting with me so I can learn more, I would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about your experience and perspective.

Love the mission but not the culture as much

Pros

- Amazing mission and vision -Typical tech start-up in that there is plenty of opportunity to get broad exposure to various aspects of technology

Cons

- Tendency to fill new positions externally rather than develop in house talent. This at times leads to current employees feeling looked over, unchallenged, and underpaid... so they leave. This can get expensive when you take into account: recruiting, training, learning curve, etc. - Working through some "Diversity/Equity/Fraternity Effect" issues like many tech companies. Because of the size this effect can be more pronounced. - No company wide mentorship/career development program

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback. I'm glad that you believe in our vision and mission and that you have a positive outlook of the company. I also really appreciate the feedback to management. As a rapidly growing company, it is hard to balance hiring externally vs. building capacity internally but we want to support the development of internal candidates as much as possible so we recently hired a senior leader to help with development. I'm sorry that you experienced a "Diversity/Equity/Fraternity Effect" at Remitly. As you said, it's an industry-wide issue but we're investing very intentionally in D&I. We have a D&I guild with over 100 members in it and we recently opened a role to hire a senior full time D&I leader to support this work. If you would ever be open to meeting with me so I could learn more about your experience at Remitly, I'd welcome the opportunity. I care about you and the rest of the Remitly team so I'm sorry to hear about your experience and that you left the company.

Pros

Huge corporate growth potential, tons of opportunities in the remittance sector. One of the hottest startups in Seattle right now, near the top of most rankings. Remitly's building a world-class FinTech platform that can move money across continents in minutes. Technically sound but always looking for more top contributors. Great finances. Company cultural values help define choices which leads to better decisions. Collaborative environment, agile, with improving infrastructure. Diversity/Inclusion is a priority, not just a buzzword.

Cons

A lot of kludgy code built for a much smaller operation holds up progress. Many independent teams without much coordination between them. No yearly bonus or matching 401K, med benefits mediocre.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your feedback. I really appreciate it and the points that you make about our growth trajectory, culture, world-class fintech platform, and great finances all ring true. I'm glad they resonate with you as well. We do have work to do to scale our system so I appreciate you pointing that out. I'm also glad you mentioned benefits as this is something that the HR team is in the process of updating. I'm happy you're part of the team and thanks again for caring about our company / leaving your thoughts.
