Great team members, could use more transparency, and authenticity
Pros
The team is highly collaborative, innovative, and ready to get things done. The best part of the job is getting to work with likeminded people. The work RES does is important for a resilient future, and when you have a great team working on the projects you can expect great things. RES has been working hard to getting a Diversity and Inclusion focus going, but little progress has been made in 6- months. But that alone is nice to see and important for the current day in age. There is opportunity for some cross-training, but that is tough to get, jobs are silo-ed, but as long as you talk with the right person and your manager they will work to get you that cross training. Day to Day the job will keep you busy, rarely do staff have nothing to do. Some weeks are more intense than others, but it all shakes out eventually. The benefits packages are great, especially with the addition of a 3-month paid maternity and paternity leave program. That is hard to find these days and amazing RES offers that to their staff. It is easy to stay with a company whos solutions align with your passions, even if the cons list and improvement areas are long, because RES does try to listen to staff. RES does a yearly employee engagement survey, and that has been critical to some of the improvements and programs RES now offers, and also lets staff air their grievances and improvement ideas. Leadership will focus on the top 3-4 items that received bad ratings and work to improve those in the upcoming year.
Cons
Technical staff could have better salaries, recognition, and promotion potential. Work life balance could be improved, along with getting out of the instant gratification mindset. Things take time, and staff cannot be expected to just get something to someone in 5 minutes/1 hour/ by EOD if they have competing priorities. Lastly, late night emails and zooms. This company loves that everyone is connected and a lot of people do not have a problem sending emails and zoom messages past 8/9/10 PM (and on the weekends) about work and things they need first thing in the morning. You can be expected to work on the weekends some months. This type of cultural can make it hard for people to actually take their time off and not stress out of they are disconnected. Sometimes it is hard to tell if certain divisions and people are genuine, and there is a decent amount of brown-nosing.
