Pros

To date I have nothing but good things to say about ROI and the professional development it has offered me. While I have felt stagnant in previous roles, since joining ROI I have continually been able to take on new responsibilities and find myself wearing many different hats (recruiting, managing candidates, sales). Not only does your ability to take on more responsibility do well for the company but also provides the opportunity to gain a wide range of transferable skills if that were your ultimate goal.

Cons

Like most jobs, the first month or so can be challenging getting acclimated to the function of the job, software used, and industry. I think the nature of construction/recruiting industry combined demands a particular DNA to be successful. A hunger to succeed and a want to continually learn will take you far at ROI.

Pros

The associates are good people to work with on a daily basis. Nice and easy to get along with. Health insurance is pretty great for a small company.

Cons

Where to begin? Old fashioned company stuck in 1998. They do not pay employees fairly (or treat them fairly). Senior leaders earn 10x more than the people actually making the company money—yet it is quite obvious to everyone that the most senior leaders don’t do any work themselves and rather sit back and collect a pay check. There is no open communication and it is a top down hierarchy that proves inefficient. President and managers think they know what is best, when they have only worked at this one small 35 person company for the last 15+ years. They refuse to listen to their employees, embrace positive change, improve their culture for the better, or acknowledge their crazy turn over problem (almost every single one of the new hires in recent years have left). Poor training and learning opportunities and no real room for advancement. They insist there are immediate growth opportunities for those who work hard and are loyal to the senior leader, but that is false. There are no real areas for growth due to everyone quitting and lack of resources. Leadership won’t invest in the most important asset a company posses—it’s people. They treat every employee as expendable and do not bat an eyelash when a good employee, who produces results, leaves. Last but not least, a complete boys club who only take care of their own. Only hire and promote those who are similar to them.

Admittedly, there has been much talk about 1998 in the ROI offices of late but for good reason; we started in 1998 and it’s ROI’s 20 year anniversary. We are proud we have reached this milestone and have been discussing our history, our culture and how we plan to celebrate this achievement at our summer outing. We are obviously disappointed to see this type of feedback from a former employee, I think it goes without saying we want every hire to be a perfect fit for the company. In this instance, it is clear we were not the right fit. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

If you are just starting out in the industry, managers and co-workers are always willing to help and support you. If you have some experience or are an independent worker/quick learner, there is an immediate opportunity for success (and financial reward).

Cons

Not much to put here. Everything is pretty straightforward and you will reap what you sow in this industry. It seems obvious that everyone at ROI is pushing for you to succeed and will do what they can to help if you are struggling.
