Pros

I just finished my training with Revature. I was part of a big data project. Coming out of training I now know many tools and techniques I didn't know before. The tech stack we learned included Scala, SQL, Hadoop, Hive, and Spark. The training gave me a basic understanding of all of these. During the training we did 4 projects some were basic just to learn the technologies but the last 2 projects we did I am happy to show off on a portfolio. Through Revature they will set you up with interviews once the training has finished. Everyone who made it until the end of our batch got an interview with Infosys. We will see what else come after that. Overall, Revature's training left me in a better place than I was at before joining.

Cons

First con is the 2 year contract at a pretty low pay. During training you get your local minimum wage and while on project the salary is 45,000. Once you sign this contract you are locked in for 2 years on the project and to break the contract there is a big fee. Additionally, the training itself was not great. Even though everything we did was planned out in advance these plans were communicated so poorly it felt like everything was changing at the last minute. I did do this training remotely during Summer 2021 so maybe this would be better in person. To whether you should join Revature, if you are able to find a tech job somewhere else you should go for that. If you are struggling in the job market, however, Revature may be right for you. With Revature you give up flexibility and potential upside for job security and the ability to get your foot in the door. Whether that trade off is worth it is up to you.
