Pros
I had no prior coding experience, but was able to get through the 10wks with A LOT of literal sweat and tears. Some details:
- First, you'll get paid throughout training.
- You'll be randomly assigned a tech stack and be placed in that cohort of 20-30ppl. You'll learn ~2 languages/tools from said stack each wk. Schedule 10am-6pm EST with 1 hr break. Due to pandemic, everything is online.
- The training pace itself is FAST, so be sure to reach out to your trainer w questions and form a study group (or make a study-buddy) to help you stay accountable, review with, etc. YOU WILL HAVE TO STUDY AFTER CLASS.
- You'll have wkly quizzes and mock interviews. Also 4 major projects P0(solo), P1(solo), P2(group) & P3(entire class).
- You may want to save some money to pay for a computer or extra ram/other specs.. there are VMs and a ton of other software requirements that are needed.
- You'll have interviews with companies as early as the 10th wk. You'll have management reach out around this time to prepare you for Staging (prep for interviews and coding practice while you wait to get accepted by a company)
Overall, I totally recommend Revature. It's definitely not an easy program, but they exceeded the promises they made in my situation. I have no CS background, but worked really hard (at least 4-5 hours after work and also most weekends) and was able to land a job in the field with good benefits before the program even finished. If you're looking for a career change or a foot in the door--this is it.
-Also, I did not have to relocate. Your new employer after Revature may or may not request that you do.
Cons
- Management had communication issues with each other and in relaying expectations of projects or quizzes to our cohort
- HR is not good at communicating/answering questions
- Training is paid but minimum wage
- Material is not mastered by end of program so be sure to take as much time as needed to really understand the material
