Well run hospital in a tough field

The culture at Rex is great. They seem to care about the employees. Good benefits. Anyone who knows about the business of healthcare knows how hard it can be to stay afloat. I think Rex does a good job of making sure that they operate in a way that keeps the doors open without making dramatic shifts (such as letting people go, changing services, cutting funding, etc.). Upper management does a good job of trying to be transparent in an ever-shifting industry.

Cons

The HR department isn't big enough. I feel there are too many employees for such a small HR group. Feels easy enough to make lateral moves, but hard to move "up the ladder", which can make you feel trapped. Pay isn't that great in some positions, but that is expected in a hospital I feel.

Pros

It is a magnet hospital and the nurses like working there. The hospital is nurse focused. There is a good relationship between hospitalist and RN.

Cons

Does not pay as well as surrounding hospital. In order to compensate for the lost of monies from medicare, staffing is strictly being monitored which can leave the hospital floor short staffed.
