Pros

Small size for a University, this place allows you to really feel like you are part of the community. You can develop relationships across most of the staff spectrum, but more importantly, become engaged in student life, and contribute to their development and widen their perspectives. Benefits, especially health, were the best I have to encounter

Cons

As a top notch research university, there are plenty of egos to deal with. You have to step carefully. Some managers have lost touch with staff, and actions are sometimes draconian.

Pros

The networking and access opportunities are amazing. Literally, very smart and well-connected people are here. Make sure not to boast about who you are or what you've done because I am certain, someone here has done that and some. If you are humble and friendly, you will build skill and strategic relationships forever.

Cons

Departmental communication can be bad at times. If there are multiple people involved, you have to do a very great job of being clear to all parties.

People do not leave, a very tenure based culture. Length of time at Rice can be valued over skill and experience outside.
