Pros

Good community with smart people as your colleague. It's a great place to learn and improve yourself. Good environment and good services for students.

Cons

Location. Companies located in houston are mostly oil and gas company or hospitals. For certain major of research, it's hard to find a job locally.

Pros

Rice University has great benefits, a beautiful campus, and everyone seems to care about the students. So far, so good.

Cons

Some feel that because they are at the "low end of the totem poll" that they don't matter. For example, our custodian has made statements that she's a little person here, so it doesn't matter. When, in fact, she is very important to the success of Rice.

Pros

From an HR perspective, Rice offers great benefits packages and competitive pay (as competitive as it can be in higher education). The experience is worth so much more. Everyone I have met on this campus has been very kind and welcoming and the students amaze me every day with their accomplishements

Cons

Sometimes the hours are abnormal (not 9-5) and it can be very difficult to change things from the way they have "always been done". Occasionally, you meet students who feel entitled by there presence at an elite university.
