      you get to teach students even when you are an undergrad

      the pay is pretty low (about the minimum wage)

      As a PhD student, I TAed occasionally and received an adequate fellowship.

      Pros

      The fellowship was adequate although not generous, and the same across my cohort. Some departments pay more than others. Living in Houston is cheap, so it was enough to get by on. The classes are very good, and the professors really care about their students.

      Cons

      The department I am in is very small, and, although the professors can advise on many subjects that are not their expertise, it helps to attend graduate school in an environment with more variety.
