Under resourced for output expectation, very political and lacks unity. Not such a supportive environment lately, imbalance in workloads, needs fluid resource allocation

Pros

Very good pay and benefits, focused on safety, world-wide company,many locations. Great people and a lot of history which made it fun.

Cons

Rio Tinto is currently trying to cut costs and appears to not have a good idea of just how to do it. They appear to be making a lot of knee-jerk reactions there is a lot of re-organization and layoffs happening. My position was one of those eliminated positions, I understand the need to cut costs but some sites will begin to suffer with lack of support from the global monster that is RioTinto.

Pros

During the boom times they were plenty of opportunities for training and growth. Great employee benefits including assistance with health insurance.

Cons

The uncertainty that started at the end of the boom with rolling redundancies and restructures every few months was frustrating and made following projects through to the end almost impossible. Those with great mentors within the company were able to be promoted with ease, whilst others were left to flounder. Very safety and health conscious during the boom times however it rapidly went downhill afterwards as they continually cut health and safety teams and training.
