Pros

I've been working for Riot for nearly six months and have loved every minute of it. The people are definitely the absolute highlight. If you're interested in working with a bunch of clever, driven people who genuinely care about the work they do, this is the place for you. I feel so lucky to be working with the Oceanic team - definitely some of the best people I have ever worked with and sometimes I feel a little star struck! Riot has a very open culture and this can mean occasionally butting heads when people disagree about the best way to achieve an outcome - but because the Oceanic team is so aligned and working towards the same goals, the discussion is always healthy and positive and has produced some awesome things. There are also plenty of opportunities to get involved in anything you're passionate about - so those discussions aren't only about your 'official' work. If you have a pet project that can add to the player experience, you'll be supported all the way. This means the opportunities for growth are limited only by your interest and capacity. Riot genuinely cares about supporting its people and providing an environment with all the tools to be successful. This includes both the fun stuff - meals, social events - and regular feedback sessions, access to all the software you need to do the job, and training. Stepping out of your comfort zone is encouraged, which can be an exhilarating experience. The end process is self-driven, though - if you're not driven to learn and be a high-performer then no-one is going to hold your hand.

Cons

The Oceanic team is still building up in numbers, and there's always many more things that we WANT to do than we have capacity for. This can also mean that if you really want to get something done, you're going to need to put in the hours for it. Getting all the cool things done that we want to do definitely requires those extra hours at the moment - we frequently put out a call for volunteers to help out and participation is highly encouraged. Personally I love this but it's not everyone's cup of tea!

Pros

+ Work with smart and motivated people + Flexible hours + Free dinner through seamless every weeknight + Some might think this is a con, but Riot is a place where employees need to be able to work with little direction and management. That means employees are given a lot of freedom to choose what they want to devote their time towards. However, this is partly because none of the managers have time to do micro-managing.

Cons

- The company is experiencing growing pains. As Riot is growing into one of the top video game companies in the industry, its also raising its expectations for the quality of its employees. Unfortunately, some of the older employees haven't been able to keep pace and Riot isn't shy about firing. However, it doesn't do a good job of managing the fall out... - Internal communication and keeping everyone on the same page is still rudimentary, but improving.

Pros

Great culture with highly passionate coworkers who all have a shared interest in gaming and making great things for players

Cons

Slow consensus driven culture with no clear decision owners, in some teams there is low ceiling for growth outside of LA due to leaders holding onto power rather than delegating or empowering others
