Passionate and Smart People with Big Ideas for the Future

Pros

The most passionate and smart people I have ever worked with. Rioters work hard together to do cool things because they think its cool, not just because its a job. Leadership, starting with the CEO, have ambitious visions for the future, and practical ideas of how to get there. No egos, just a bunch of people who care about the same things, and want to help Riot create good experiences for gamers. It is amazing to work with people who care so much about what they do. It's a great place for someone who is a gamer, or has the DNA of a gamer. Getting to play games during work is a great plus (though this doesn't mean you should neglect your responsibilities). Riot also cares about the Rioters who work here, and while the perks aren't overly extravagant in Hong Kong, such as smoothies on Tuesdays and massages on Thursdays, they are nice little reminders that Riot appreciates our hard work. Riot has a very flat structure, which means that once you join, you can be empowered to take on responsibilities and project fairly quickly. This is great for people who want to hit the ground running. Your opportunities at Riot are not as limited by hierarchy or bureaucracy, it's really a place where, if you perform, you will be able to take on more responsibilities and leadership roles. The Hong Kong office is unique in that it is still very much an entrepreneurial atmosphere, but it has the resources to lean back on of the entire Riot. This is great because we can focus here on doing great things, and not worry about having the resources to get there. Overall, it's been a great experience working here thus far, and while at times the workload has been difficult, I find myself always excited to go to work, to learn from fellow Rioters (and I've learned a lot), to challenge myself with responsibilities I would never get a chance to take on in previous jobs, to duo queue with other Rioters, and for smoothies on Tuesday mornings.

Cons

The passion and emphasis on culture fit means there's little tolerance for non-gamers and questionable culture fits. The high bar for hiring means often smart and talented people are not hired because of bad culture fit, which in turn means the workload can sometimes get overwhelming. People here are passionate about what they do, but this means it is not a place for people who just want to go to a 9-5 job in a fun environment. Late hours and working on weekends is not uncommon.

Pros

An empowering company, that has solid core values that are lived every day in every decision (to understand more look at the companies mission statement). The culture at Riot is not just talked about but it is expressed in the actions and words of all Rioters. All Rioters are seen as leaders, and level is not a excuse to stop people leading. Rioters at all levels lead initiatives every day, it is the role of management to support them throughout the initiative.

Cons

Riot has the same general issues of most companies however these are never reason to not get things done. The thing with the "cons" in Riot as we all come across them is that we can in line with the pro's I've mentioned, in the vast majority of cases I can to something to change these. I'm not avoiding the question but its more that I am not hampered by the obstacles I come across. Riot is not perfect, and mistakes and issues crop up all the time, what I like is the attitude that all Riot takes in dealing with them.
