Pros

Very good basic selection of OTC & Beauty items. People in the store are friendly and competent. Customers are great. Excellent rebate program for the customer.

Cons

Everyday pricing is too high. Way to many Rite Aid coupon offers which indicates the company knows or should know regular pricing is out of whack. Way to many checkstand directives to effectively communicate to the customer and still keep lines moving rapidly. Poor raises and bonuses based on rather unrealistic budges. Poor upper level management because they seem to have no idea what their programs are doing in the stores.

Pros

I had good associates many of whom I am still friendly with. There were a number of customers that usually made my day suck a little less when they came in.

Cons

Pay stinks less than you would make at CVS or Walgreens. Benefits are getting worse. Only Aetna health fund is available now. Raises are abysmal 2% a year is an insult. The cost of the health insurance goes up more than that every year making the raise pointless. District management varies from district to district. I felt that the DMs were more yes men to certain RVPs and would only stick their neck out so far for their managers. In my case I was fired for poor performance (working 55+ hours at the time). Basically I was "unable to get the store looking the way it should" in the insane hours I worked. A month earlier when "bonuses" came out my DM told me that I had the best bonus in the district because of my store's great CSI scores and EBITDA. So basically they fired me even though my customers were happy and I was making a decent profit. To make matters more insulting I was fired on the 8yr anniversary of the date I started with Eckerd. Out with the old in with the cheap I suppose. They recently made low volume managers hourly and "demoted" assistant managers back to shift supervisors and cut their pay. I was fired literally the weekend before this was supposed to take effect so I can't comment on how it affected sales/profitability in the store. I can't imagine it helped very much if at all.

Pros

Some of the pros of working at Rite Aid are its a fairly easy job. You can advance in the company. Its a very relaxed environment . I am a twenty year old associate who is being promoted to a supervisor when i turn 21 in a few months. I feel like the people i work with recognize when i do a good job and enjoy working there.

Cons

The company is extremely cheap. They treat the associates like slaves. If you are an associate at Rite Aid you are looked at as a dime a dozen. They will start you out at minimum wage and give you one raise a year which is 2% 3 if you are lucky. They have changed so much to eliminate costs, they have demoted assistant managers to supervisors. Instead of hiring consultants they use the employees to do that job and call it the Cultural Change group. Compared to what the competitors are paying versus Rite Aid i am extremely unsatisfied. In a couple months i take on a lot of responsibility for less than a 2 dollar raise when i would make more if i worked at CVS or Walgreens as a cashier. Rite Aid is more concerned about catching associates stealing they have cameras in all the places where we handle money but people are stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise in the aisles daily.
