Pros

I guess I'm lucky to have a job that pays well and offers pretty good benefits. I like the 20% discount, and have surrounded myself with good people.

Cons

I am the manager, but basically the District Managers run all the stores. Every idea has to go through them first. I worked for Brooks Pharmacy, where the store manager had a lot more to do with the daily decisions. There was this sense of ownership, which brought more pride to the job. Rite Aid doesn't have that. We can't even donate a bag of candy to the local Boy Scouts halloween party, without asking the DM. Do you know how embarrassing it is to have to tell a parent that you'll have to get permission to donate a bag of candy. Another thing that bothers me is that it's nearly impossible to be promoted to a field management position, unless you know the right people. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a position advertised that has already been filled. In fact, I think it's always filled beforehand. Seems like they have gone away from promoting within as well. I'm seeing a lot of upper management coming in, that are coming from other companies. I could go on for days.

Former Manager's opinion

Pros

Rite Aid gave me a tremendous amount of experience in how to handle stress, time management, and the daily workings of retail.

Cons

I do not think that management, especially District Manager and corporate, appreciate what the stores go through every day. Extremely stressful and no one in the upper levels care. Little payroll but huge expectations.
