Pros

Riverbed was once a wonderful place to work for and that has eroded over time. It has always been very politically driven versus a meritocracy. The products have always worked extremely well and I was very proud to sell them through my tenure. The employees always believed that Jerry (CEO) was doing what was in their best interest until the last year or so when key figures started to leave. The office is in a beautiful location and is stocked with good snacks. Riverbed's benefits are amazing as well.

Cons

The company is falling fast. Looking at earnings reports (take out selling of product lines and see how far off they are) and make your judgement. Infrastructure is moving to the cloud and WAN based products clearly have a short term shelf life. That is one of the main reasons that key people are leaving. Riverbed acquired the Opnet product line and it was by most opinions a huge mistake. Performance management and analytics of applications are incredibly important but they need to drive those results from SAAS/Cloud based applications. Overall the corporate culture is not what it was just a few years ago. Key positions in sales and HR have been filled with a lot of ex-cisco people who don't show much value in the employee. That is my opinion at least and I know it is shared by others. They have blatantly made horrible mistakes in their layoffs. Regional Sales reps at 5-20% of quota were kept on and other departments dismantled. Much of this was politically driven and a calculation of HR costs. This is not how it was presented by Jerry in October. There are hundreds of positions that are filled by people showing up at 10am leaving a 2 after a 1+ hour lunch and are making 100-200k per year (recruiting). They are so desperate to keep talent until the acquisition is completed that they are promoting reps who were on performance plan, managers who couldn't forecast and employees who are flat out lazy. Honestly if you really need a job this could be a good resume booster but don't think of this as more than a road bump.

Pros

*Work life balance. * Work from home. * Can slack off pretty bad and no one gonna tell you anything. * No accountability so if your looking for a paycheck without much(sometimes any) effort this is a really good company. * Good PTO. * APM product doing good and is probably only saving grace.

Cons

* Below market pay, no bonus, worthless stock. * Massive layoff recently (~200 people, >10% of workforce). Rumor has it more are coming. * Market has pivoted. WAN opt is ancient in current cloud environment. * Biggest revenue generator SteelHead sales are dropping like dead fly. * Not even in top 5 in SDWAN market. * No vision by management starting from CEO. He's a dishonest person who bullshits(tried to discredit recent Bloomberg report) and fools own employees. What can you expect from a Brit anyways. * Too many and I really really mean TOO MANY WEAK Managers, Senior Managers, Directors, Senior Directors, VPs. Too much crap that they spew out on a daily basis. * Product delivery schedules slip massively(6-8 months!) but no one BATS AN EYELID. * Company has lot of debt to pay as well detailed in a recent Bloomberg article. Just google it. 22% yield on unsecured note(yep 22%!), CCC rating on notes by ratings agency which is practically junk. * Total lack of product management. Have seen a lot of them browsing jobs on LinkedIn. * SVPs have been given instructions to cut costs desperately. * Too many housewives running the show and collecting comfortable paychecks. Some of them have been with company with more than 8-10 years and would be hard pressed to find any low skilled job outside(may be data entry). A lot of them come to office to vent out about their family lives(kids schools, in-laws, vacations, just more stupid stuff) daily, non-stop and never get tired.

Pros

Once upon a time was a great work environment with lots of smart people. Now its a nice place to coast if you're looking for a 9 to 5 where the checks don't bounce (yet).

Cons

Upper management became disconnected. Fired off all of the old guard red wedding style and sold of several product lines. Then, made the mortal sin of buying a company and trying to "integrate" it with a swath of legacy products that nobody understood.
