Pros

Excellent work environment for employees. Rivers leadership encourages us to take classes, learn more, getting certified and take vacation. I have never had that before. They also pay for the classes that we want to take. Our whole team is great to work with. Everyone has been very supportive of me and the team is really smart. The morning meetings are fun. You can learn a lot listening to others talk through their work and projects. We are meeting everyday over video since the work from home orders in March. Many of us want to get back to the office soon, but the Directors want to wait for the reports get better. Rivers is a solid group of caring people. We also have top clients that I've worked on.

Cons

I don't like working from home. Can't learn as much as I need to from home. Hope things reopen and we go back to the office soon.

Pros

Overall, Rivers hires wonderful people - I have never worked in a setting where I genuinely enjoyed working with each person on my team. Management is very generous - with group lunches, holiday parties, and monthly birthday celebrations and incentives. The atmosphere is mostly laid back and the open office is inviting and creatively collaborative. Management is helpful and encouraging when you have a problem and is forgiving of mistakes. The workload seems to always be manageable and comfortable. Rivers has a wealth of clients with varying needs that keep the day-to-day exciting and ever-changing.

Cons

Project management is not always clear and feels a bit disorganized at times. Working from home is inconvenient. Projects shuffle around between designers a lot - which isn't necessarily bad - but is sometimes confusing and discouraging.

Pros

The fast paced work environment typical in the agency industry could not have been better for my career. It exposed me to tons of new practices based on the client's needs and ultimately provided me with more experience in currently relative technologies than most other professionals. The office environment is also very open and welcoming. The open concept encourages collaboration, but there are also a few private conference rooms if you need some isolation. Beyond that, downtown Chapel Hill is a beautiful place to work. With tons of boutique shops and restaurants there's no shortage of places to visit on your lunch break or enjoy time with your coworkers/friends after work.

Cons

As I mentioned in the pros it is an agency, and the fast pace can be intimidating but also exhilarating. There are times when development best practices need to be weighed against client satisfaction and deadlines. While attention to detail is an absolute necessity in this industry, time management and results are more important here than most corporations. Being thrown into the fire can be hot, but ultimately results in a stronger steel.

Rivers Agency Response

Thank you very much for taking the time to give Rivers this feedback. This is very consistent with the real day-to-day life that we are living at Rivers. So glad that you learned a lot while you were with us. Every project and every client comes to us with a new set of technologies and needs. This helps to open our minds and keep us sharp. We love the new excitement and the new opportunity each day. And, fair statement, our weakness is saying yes to all new challenges and client needs. It really speaks to our startup mentality. Come to work with us and you will not get bored and you will learn a lot while having fun (and ice cream). Thank you! Lauren Rivers
