Pros

have been with Rivers Agency for a little over 4 years. It is fun, laid back and we get to design great stuff for big clients. As small as we are we still have a lot of cool employee involvement in every decision - Birthday Committee, Holiday Party Committee and we even voted on our retirement benefits. Our leadership put some options out for us through email and then we had a meeting and voted on what we wanted to invest in - 401(k) or Simple IRA or IRA funding. The CEO also sends out emails to all of us keeping us in the loop about pitches, positive client feedback, winning business and big meetings. She also asks our opinion abut everything, hence the committees. We also complete internal surveys for the leadership as a way to get them feedback and for them to make adjustments. Our Directors are ALWAYS looking for feedback.

Cons

Not a lot middle management. To me it’s actually a pro, but some people want to get titles. At Rivers we have designers, writers and developers. The best team in the business, by far, and I have worked at 3 other NC agencies since 2004.

Pros

Since starting at Rivers Agency I've had a wonderful experience of having my thoughts and opinions heard. If there's a particular policy that's found disagreeable there's plenty of opportunity ability to debate the topic ad nauseam. The opportunities for increasing your wealth of knowledge are ever present. Whether it's from the brilliant employees who share their insight, Rivers electing to send you to training or conference for extended education in your field, or working directly on a new framework. There's no feeling of stagnating, instead, there's a constant motivation of bettering one's self. Addition benefits include decent insurance (all of them; health, life, dental, and vision), Friday lunch, and an on-site gym, right in downtown Chapel Hill/Carrboro. Rivers Agency has shown me repeatedly that nurturing the individual always benefits the business.

Cons

Developers who traditionally to work on a single product may find the fast-paced environment of an Agency intimidating. With dozens of clients and every client, no matter its size is given the same level of customer service. This demands a high level of diligence to not let yourself get disorganized.

Your opinions and your professional time are very important to us. Please continue to give us feedback. It's absolutely the only way we can grow our organization. Awareness precedes change. Many thanks, Lauren Rivers

Pros

Great location in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. Lots of natural light. Good pay. One can succeed here, but see below.

Cons

Opaque and consistently confusing creative expectations. The potential of the creative team as a whole was thwarted by directive management. One coworker early in my time there described the structure as "inner circle and outer circle," which was apt, as the management team was professionally exclusive. Deeply ingrained favoritism often disregarded fresh and enticing solutions. One AD was concerningly inept with industry-standard design software and frequently requested help executing basic technical functions. Lastly, design department turnover was remarkable. Specifically non-directorial staff. With the exception of management and a couple of designers who had resigned themselves to production roles, I saw the entire art department turn over multiple times.

Thank you for sharing your perspective about our creative process. At Rivers Agency, we strive to provide fresh, insightful, and inventive creative to solve complex challenges. Our family of creatives collaborates through a “blank canvas” approach to provide the best (and often award-winning) results for our clients. We recognize that our creative approach in a fast-paced environment is not for everyone, but we value all of our employees and the feedback we receive. Thank you! Lauren Rivers
