Pros

Job security due to the negative external image of the company.

Cons

12 hours days are expected, whilst being paid for 8 hours. Unpaid weekend work can be dealt on a Friday evening. You can go months without a complete weekend free. Within RocketlabNZ and RocketlabUSA, engineer remuneration differing by 25k USD. Internally developed software systems are there to hinder your professional life everyday. And there are multiple. The overdrive development culture is unsustainable. Managers are inhuman beings, no remorse for your personal life. Engineering decisions are make on the whim, managers accept risk rather than making long term successful change. You will struggle to make your team lead see the short staffing issues that face your department. Media know more about the company goals than you do.

Rocket Lab Response

Hi there, Although there are a number of elements of this review that we disagree with. We're sorry that you had this experience with Rocket Lab. We appreciate the feedback regarding salary. We do have a number of people who come over from overseas where wage and conditions are different, however we have had our remuneration bench-marked, and for the most part we are on par with our local markets and where we are not, we are working hard to change this. We also have a number of communication tools which we lean on to get messages out to our employees and there are also a number of online teams forums where information is tracked. Back we take on the feedback that every organisation can always evolve and improve and we have a number of projects to help provide more structures and processes to our current team members. We wish you all the best with your future endeavors. -Rocket Lab People & Culture

Pros

I think the company is heading in the right as it slowly transitions into an organisation that values its employees.

Cons

The company is still very young in regards to process. I have worked at 4 companies which are aerospace and this was the worst to work at. it wasn't that the hours were long. It was that employees were expected to put the rocket before everything. So unrealistic timelines were further exaggerated by things going wrong. HR didn't really do anything and the team leads just tried to keep the CEO off their back for another week. Being pre-revenue the salaries were not competitive and the likelihood of a payrise even less likely. Furthermore you couldn't just stop and have a chat without the CEO looking at you like you were the reason they had to raise more money. We were also told that if anything we designed or tested was wrong we would be sacked, such was the pressure the company was under to achieve success.

Pros

I did enjoy the people that I worked with and the tech was cool

Cons

Where do I start. Long hours, little to no recognition. Massive amount of time away from you family. Impossible to meet deadlines. Constant launch delays. Egomaniac managers. Little to no professional development.
