Pros

The stuff they make is really interesting & they give you a few tshirts.

Cons

Extremely long hours, no flexibility, no regard for employees having other priorities in their lives, scant regard for NZ employment law, well established culture of fear as lots of the younger staff know how significant the role is in their careers & are terrified of stuffing it up, very American ethos around work & employment, slightly racist recruitment & attitudes as a huge portion of their staff are young white hipster males. It’s just not worth the hype & their staff turnover reflects this.

Hi there, We are sorry you felt you had this experience, however we are also unsure as to whether this is a real review as we don't have Senior Consultants at Rocket Lab and some of the information contained in this review is incorrect and misleading. For example our turnover percentage is 15.5% which is below the NZ average. We would also strongly object to your comment around slightly racist recruitment, considering we have over 25 different nationalities working for us. We also work with a number of all female high schools on STEM education and are launching our Rocket Lab Education Program next year. Whilst we do not agree with most of the comments in this review, we acknowledge that Rocket Lab is fast-paced dynamic environment and this is not suitable for everyone. All the best with your future endeavors. -Rocket Lab People and Culture

Pros

The staff are very helpful and have a great work ethic. The work is interesting and working with state of the art facilities. Accelerated learning opportunities for graduates.

Cons

Management is top heavy and poorly executed due to the lack of management experience and skills of said managers. Micro-managing is rife. Poor chance of career progression without bending over backwards to impress your superiors - to a point where your health will be compromised. Demanding deadlines and workload with no incentives (pay or otherwise). Working weekends is expected - no overtime. A culture of intra company competition between departments which creates divide and a drain on the very limited resources. Highly strung. People and Culture team offer poor employee support.

Hi there, It’s great to know that you enjoyed our great facilities and working with our fantastic people. We agree that the Space industry can be quite demanding and we do have very high standards. When you are going to the Moon, Mars and Venus, excellence has to be your starting point! We would disagree with your statement around there being no incentives, we have a share program that rewards high performing employees and this is extremely lucrative. We would also disagree with the statement around lack of career opportunities, 20% of employees received a promotion of some nature in the first 6 months of this year, further to this, we have structured career paths, which come in the form of our career matrices, the technician banding scheme, as well as regular 1 to 1’s and performance reviews– however if this has not been your experience please feel free to reach out confidentially to our People and Culture team at peopleandculture@rocketlab.co.nz Thanks again for your feedback. -Rocket Lab People & Culture

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We agree that one of the best things about our organisation is how our employees work together as a team and strive to be the very best. The effort and determination we see from our employees is admirable and is why we are at the cutting edge of space technology. However, we understand that there are some processes and procedures that need further strengthening to help support our employees and we are working hard to embed these for the future. Thanks again for your review – we look forward to launching again in the very near future! -Rocket Lab People & Culture
