Pros

They treat their adjuncts with tremendous respect and value our contribution. The students are outstanding!

Cons

While they pay more than some schools, the pay is still low.

Pros

Beautiful campus, many opportunities, good pay, decent benefits. Tenure process is vague, but since the place is a union shop, everyone gets tenure. Very little shared office space, professional development funds (about 3 thousand per faculty member), guaranteed raises.

Cons

Tenure process is vague, but since the place is a union shop, everyone gets tenure. Most faculty members are mediocre at best, and those that rise above the rest are often sabotaged by other faculty members. RWU hires people who will not threaten the status quo, and Admin can't figure out why the faculty are generally lazy and unproductive. Very little diversity, but the administration is really focused on the issue, although their definition is defined as people of color. Basically RWU is looking for an identity and needs to find a way to be happy with what it is (whatever that is). Heavy teaching loads (4-3) and summer pay (overload) is low. The school has been sued several times (most recently for gender discrimination), and administration turns over frequently. Admin has obvious disdain for faculty (not surprising since the few strong faculty members are over shadowed by the poor ones) and has a hard time changing the culture because the union fights change.
