Pros

Rowan pays adjunct professors more than many others institutions (but it's still not enough)

Cons

- Adjuncts make around $16k a year IF they are allotted the maximum number of courses (2 per semester). - No job security whatsoever. - There is money to go around, yet they still rely on adjuncts. They just bought the President a million dollar home to live in. - The quality of students have noticeably diminished just in the past few years, as they school practically accepts EVERYONE. - As a result, there has been more crime on campus, from credit scams to drugs and gun charges - Nepotism is rampant, as some adjuncts are able to teach with just a Bachelor's degree.

Pros

A very collegial and family-like atmosphere. A lot less interdepartmental politics than I have seen other universities of similar size. The pay and benefits are generally good, and the university makes genuine effort in providing the faculty and staff with necessary support to help you be successful. The university is growing not just in numbers, but also in recognition and prestige.

Cons

The university is growing significantly, and there are some growing pains. The growth is well-intended, to provide access to more NJ students (this is a public school, after all), however, there is a potential for such growth (in particular the many articulation agreements with community schools) to affect the quality of the existing on-site programs. While the desire, good-will and some support to make you successful is there, much of the resources are not always well distributed.

Pros

Some phenomenal people work here—intelligent, interesting, dedicated. State benefits are still head and shoulders above what most private employers offer.

Cons

Salaries are nowhere near what can be earned outside of civil service. Poor performers and bad attitudes continue to be roadblocks for change agents and act as a poison to the culture here.
