Pros

A very collegial and family-like atmosphere. A lot less interdepartmental politics than I have seen other universities of similar size. The pay and benefits are generally good, and the university makes genuine effort in providing the faculty and staff with necessary support to help you be successful. The university is growing not just in numbers, but also in recognition and prestige.

Cons

The university is growing significantly, and there are some growing pains. The growth is well-intended, to provide access to more NJ students (this is a public school, after all), however, there is a potential for such growth (in particular the many articulation agreements with community schools) to affect the quality of the existing on-site programs. While the desire, good-will and some support to make you successful is there, much of the resources are not always well distributed.

Pros

I worked as an instructional technology specialist for the College of Engineering. While I was there, I thought my co-workers among both the Engineering and IT faculty/staff were a great group of people to work with. The benefits are great. The vacation time and work life balance were second to none. Salary was competitive for the position. The only reason I didn't stay in the position is because I had the opportunity to pursue a career in software engineering, which is my primary passion.

Cons

It's a state school and a large institution, so projects can take a long time to get done.

Pros

Management was fair, coworkers were helpful. The benefits are awesome as long as you manage to get a full time position.

Cons

The only thing I'd say is upward mobility isn't ideal. You'd pretty much be working the same job year after year, but at least your salary increases.
