Overall Good Company

Pros

Great work environment and a large wealth of knowledge from experienced people. Local management does a great job at defining expectations and offering support to employees to enable them to succeed.

Cons

Corporate management often sets lofty goals for local branches without offering investing in equipment or inventory to support those goals.

Pros

Good work/life balance, team work environment. If you like a defined daily routine, then they are a good place for you.

Cons

Difficult to break into management. Notorious "good old boys" club. They go through periods where they hire a lot of people, and then fire a lot of people. Once you get to a certain level you get "stuck" because there's nowhere to go up without someone retiring, leaving or being fired. Originality is frowned upon, they prefer for you to do your job "the way it has always been". The company grows through acquisitions, so there is a lot of animosity, an us vs. them feeling. They also prefer to promote men over women despite experience, education & time with the company.

Wouldn't Recommend Them

Pros

The only benefit would be if you need a pay check. Managers check to make sure that everyone is in their cube. Work at home is not an option. Forget making a snow storm excuse. You will hear about it constantly.

Cons

The raises are below other companies. There was never any training offered and no chance for advancement. If you are looking for a management team that is full of themselves and can really follow through with bad decisions Ryerson is your company
