Pros

It was a great place to work. Ryerson was highly respected within the industry by their competition as well as their customers.

Cons

Than, their reputation did not matter to the next administration. The current condition of the steel industry is unfortunate. Many will not be able to ride it out.

Pros

Good work/life balance, team work environment. If you like a defined daily routine, then they are a good place for you.

Cons

Difficult to break into management. Notorious "good old boys" club. They go through periods where they hire a lot of people, and then fire a lot of people. Once you get to a certain level you get "stuck" because there's nowhere to go up without someone retiring, leaving or being fired. Originality is frowned upon, they prefer for you to do your job "the way it has always been". The company grows through acquisitions, so there is a lot of animosity, an us vs. them feeling. They also prefer to promote men over women despite experience, education & time with the company.
