Pros

If you are an individual with a security clearance, the SAIC "brand" has cachet in the government contracting arena, for whatever that is worth. With 44,000 employees worldwide, there are a lot of opportunities; the problem is finding them when you want them. Healthcare and other benefits are good. HR is responsive. If you are transitioning to SAIC from the military, you will be shocked at its efficiency. Their base salary was fair compared to BAE, and better than my peers at BAH. It is possible to get a signing bonus; I got a 5K one. Finally, SAIC also is involved in some great work, if you can link up with the right business unit.

Cons

Despite its reorganization, SAIC is still a company of multiple fiefdoms. Managers are concerned about their own bottom line, Business units and divisions are often indistinguishable in terms of mission and market segment. If your local management is good, things are great, if they are not, you will experience friction. Many individuals (including myself) conducted SETA work (glorified out sourcing) at the government client site. This gave us great exposure to the client, but none to our own leadership. As a result promotions, professional development, corporate goals and career progression were all big mysteries. For many people, loyalty waned as a result. This cycle feeds SAIC's high turnover.

Pros

Flexible management (at least my direct management chain). Many available levels of employment status, including full-time (minimum 32 hours), part-time, unscheduled professional, and consulting employee. SAIC has decent benefits, including medical, dental, life insurance, disability insurance and vision plans. SAIC is a very scattered company - divisions are co-located with clients, this enables it's divisions to be very responsive to client needs and requirements. SAIC has had historically excellent stock growth and bonus plans. Advancement for women is improving, networks are in place to allow women to meet with other women within the company to assist each other with working toward advancement at senior managements levels.

Cons

SAIC is a very scattered company - it's divisions are co-located with clients. While this affords a nimbler response to clients, it complicates the day-to-day management issues. Sometimes it can seem like upper management is out of touch with the workers in the trenches. Now that SAIC (NYSE: SAI) stock is publicly it is harder to get bonuses of stock and options. Trading the stock through Mellon can be time consuming, but must be done to maintain the employee benefit of 10 votes per share (Class A?), if an employee wants to move the stock to his/her own broker, the preferential voting rights are lost.

Pros

- Competitive Benefits - Flexibility on schedule - Knowledgeable staff and coworkers

Cons

- Increased focus on corporate profits has had a negative effect on lower level staff. - Long time experienced Managrs who care about customer wants and quality are being cleared out for MBA types who care more about sales and cost cutting. - Corporate culture that led me to stay for 11+ years has eroded under the last two CEOs. - Pay can be stagnant compared to market depending on contract pricing.
