Depends on the Project Manager

Pros

Have had a long run with the company and not without its rough spots. In the last 2 years many poor managers have been either weeded out or left for other companies. Now government contracts are requiring persons to have degrees and certifications which is making the company look at qualifications rather than who one is related to or grown up with. Larger and more stable contracts are becoming more relevant. Now people can take the time to go to school and get the credentials that can take them beyond contracting. The jobs are really not that hard. Depending on the project, overtime can be exhausting or non-existent.

Cons

The overall project manager can make the work environment relaxed or unbearable. The good ole boy club is not dead yet. Ex-marines and navy submariners control most of the management positions. Relation will get preferential treatment as with women with above average looks. They just have to show up to work to keep a job. Government employees view the people doing the work as second (management) and third class (workers) citizens. Government bureaucracy makes everything take longer than it should. Government employees typically demand work done outside of contract specifications. The government employee is always right.

Disappointing...

Pros

Good learning experience. Interesting programs.

Cons

Management hires you on in to fill a minimal category (i.e. warehouse associate) then puts you in a position with much more responsibility. Makes promises they can't keep in terms of salary. Tons of nepotism, which results in more work on the underpaid experienced folks. Bad gig all around.

Pros

Good, pay, benefits and their are some good people that are genuine and decent.

Cons

They really do not care about anything but their bottom line and ability to just make money. Like most government contractors. The company is at mercy of government control. Everyone is disposable. If your comfortable with that then your in the right place. When it comes down to it. No matter what they suck up to government, at any cost. They have a big dose of karma coming.
