Pros

Some divisions have unique, cutting-edge research. If you can find those, you're all set. That said, however, SAIC is great at farming bodies out to customers without regard for employee morale or preference. If they can put you in a dark hole for their desired rate, they'll do it. Turnover while I was there was incredibly high; they lost 60% of their new hires within the first two years and struggled to mitigate that issue.

Cons

Too much bureaucracy to wade through to make a difference. It seems like there is a manager for every two engineers. They focus too heavily on hiring ex-military, and it shows too strongly in their management style. They need to balance their senior management hires to help sway the organization back to a more balanced level. That is unlikely to happen, unfortunately. The company has just gotten too big to be inspiring.

Pros

Money and benefits are decent however the raises are not commensurate with the cost of living increases nor commensurate with the number of hours an employee has to work each week.

Cons

SAIC was one of the most stressful companies I ever worked for. They demand you put in many hours including weekends and do not appreciate all the hard work you do for them. And pay raises aren't even close to the cost of living increases. Lack of communication and leadership among management keeps lower ranking employees confused and stressed about their work. The company should demand that every manager take management courses and learn how to fairly, nicely, calmly and effectively manage their employees. The management style is mostly dictatorial and demanding in nature. There is no "team" concept with positive oversight and "positive" help and feedback from management. Managers tend to intimidate, control, manipulate, condescend and micromanage employees. There is little or no mentoring or chance for advancement. It is the most negative corporation I worked for in how employees are treated. There is no work- family balance at all because the company demands employees to work a lot of hours without additional compensation or even accolades for the hard work. Managers don't seem to consider employees workloads and add additional employees to even out the workloads. Managers are not united in direction, changes or processes so employees usually have to figure things out on their own with people doing things differently. There is very little acceptance of ideas for process change instead you just use the processes as provided even if they are ineffective and inefficient. The paycheck is okay and if you don't mind working under a lot of stress, pressure, poor management, lots of hours and in a negative environment, then work at SAIC.

Pros

SAIC is a great company for self motivated professionals in their second or third job out of school. SAIC is not a good place for someone fresh out of school as you are expected to show up prepared to perform. We closely reflect our customers. that means you should have some prior service experience before joining SAIC. If you want the chance to set your own future based on your interests and willingness to perform, then SAIC is the place for you.

Cons

SAIC has difficulty making hard decisions. Because management typically comes from the customers we serve, government, they tend to suffer from similar decision making weaknesses found in government. Because we are a great company from a self starter entrepreneurial perspective, don't expect senior management to think about grand strategy and lay out a roadmap for mid and direct level managers to follow. It is up to you to figure it out. Don't confuse lack of strategy or decision making skills with a lack of oversight (data calls) and a never ending list of new management self serve requirements. SAIC is trying to learn how to be big. We have grown fast and continue to struggle with how you lead in a larger company. In summary, there is nothing inspiring in senior leadership (bugm and up).
