Pros

Novus really cares about its people. It takes seriously what many other firms fail to understand as crucial aspects to employees' long-term happiness - effective recruiting, organized onboarding, employee engagement, consistent agreement on job responsibilities and expectations, etc. Props to the leadership team for taking management so seriously. I only see improvement on these fronts in the future. The environment is fast-paced and provides an invaluable opportunity for anyone looking to wear various hats and learn within a high-growth environment. The exposure I got to the various functions of someone in my role (and other roles) was priceless. People are dedicated, hardworking, passionate about what they're building and have a great sense of humor. The culture is collaborative, and leadership is very conscious about providing transparency around business decisions, team structures and processes. The benefits package is solid. In-house perks include happy hours, a newly built pantry filled with snacks and quarterly firm-wide catering.

Cons

The hours can be long. But the upside is that this means employees often hang out with each other, which contributes to the tightly-knit culture. Novus isn't for those who are looking to have a routine job with a narrowly-defined and unchanging set of responsibilities. It's a place for those who seek responsibility and accountability, who are adaptive and want to be key players on a small, nimble, hardworking and high-performing team. Personalities can be pushy and loud. The open office layout may be overwhelming for someone who's used to working solo behind closed doors.

Pros

the people: it's a very young company. The average age is probably around 26. They know how to work hard but even throughout they day, there are random times where people are laughing and having a good time. startup environment: the kitchen is always stocked. There's a ping pong table. Now that they're located at the Metlife building, you can take a break and get a bite to each when you need to. They give you nice swag, headphones for work and anything that will make you work more comfortably and more productively. social events: just in the short time I worked here, there were bunch of social events and other gatherings to get the entire company together. leadership: they truly believe they're changing the industry and can go on and on about how they're so passionate about it.

Cons

hours (can be a plus because of the people): definitely not your 9-5 job but given that you're working with great people, it makes time go quicker parts of the work can be very tedious and repetitive blue sky thinking: of the few meetings that I attended, many ended without logistics discussed/figured out or even a consensus determined. I'm not sure when these things get figured out because it seems like they do eventually. training: the process is still being changed but is generally handled by the most recent hires so it becomes less standardized and formal.

At Novus the social initiatives are meant to bring our people together to bond, so we’re happy to hear these were received! The people at Novus are awesome individuals and we appreciate all their hard work and late hours to help move the needle forward. Maintaining a work/life balance is important but many times our employees choose to work longer hours because they love what they do and the people they work with.
