Pros

Lots of opportunity to travel. Diverse work force. Unique experiences. You will learn to organize at the community level putting workers first.

Cons

Culture of distrust. Misleading instructions if instructions are given at all. Pay is abysmally low for the hours you work. Training is definitely lacking. Very militarized.

Skilled senior colleagues and the organization offered continuous training in-house and with local college.

Cons

Very hierarchical, work culture bred high turnover and employee burn out; low wages, top management earned at least three times as much as entry level organizers.

Pros

SEIU works to improve the lives of their members, of low income people, of those who need a voice in this nation. The work they do is important and relevant and necessary. Staff are energetic, creative, smart, and experts in their field. Benefits are incomparable.

Cons

This amazing work is done with a great amount of planning and foresight into the plan of the organization, however so much of the work is done in a way that is done in a way that cripples morale. Staff are leaving the organization in droves. Staff only advance if they are friends with leadership. Those who have been promoted to supervisory positions have largely not been trained to supervise staff, and that lack of training makes working for them difficult at best.
