Field Engineer, offshore cementing

Pros

The salary seems good at ~72,000 a year starting out, until you realize the land cementers have a more regular schedule and get 20K more a year

Cons

Job didn't turn out to be what I was told during interviews. Work offshore for a couple years not leading any crew or any supervisor work and no job bonuses, then move to the office and be on call 24/7/365 unless you take vacation days (15 a year) and still get no job bonus. The money isn't worth the time spent working there. You'll get one day off for every three days offshore, while all the cementers you work with will get three days off for every three days they work.

Lack of direction

Pros

Great training programs, ability to move globally, progression is available in some roles. Some excellent guidelines and programs for technology development.

Cons

Too much of the manufacturing and supply chain is removed from the field creating a great deal of tension at times . The company does seem to be in turmoil in part to what’s going on in the industry but as well as some of the re-organization that’s going on internally. Some of the changes don’t appear to make sense from a financial or operational support standing which does make it hard for employees to both support and follow.

Pros

Schlumberger is rich. Leader in his sector Employees are very well selected: lot of outstanding employees

Cons

Schlumberger forces were technology and people. Today it is more dividends and transformation (but transformation to ???) For software, we use outdated process: cowboy coding. Tester is a metier
