      Pros

      I had the opportunity to work with very experienced and talented individuals and learnt a great deal from them. During my time in the field, I learnt a great deal about myself and how to deal with difficult situations and to perform under pressure.

      Cons

      Field work was very hectic and tiring - both mentally and physically. I had no time for a social life. My time at the product center was overall great. Except that during this downturn the management decided to change too many things and it felt that we were focusing less on the technology and more on mundane documentation and processes.

      Pros

      I worked for an offshore wireline location. When things are busy, you make a lot of money (bonuses). Because you work so hard together, coworkers tend to form good friendships.

      Cons

      When things are slow, you make base salary (not very competitive). Your first 5 years are pretty much set in stone (JFE-FE-SFE-GFE). If you delay your progress, you become a target during layoffs. When the location is busy, days off and vacation are cancelled. Any left-over vacation at the end of the year is taken without compensation (for "your" benefit). You are treated more like a asset than an employee. Work at ALL hours on a regular basis.
