Pros

The senior management really lives and promotes their values. They aren't just bullet points on a powerpoint slide. The CEO knows your name from almost Day 1. He is extremely personable. The company is working hard to be one of the best in the industry and stay in the best plays.

Cons

The company is growing so fast that there is never any downtime between changes and new projects.

Pros

SM Energy is a company that has experienced its share of growing pains but is a great place to work. The upper management (CEO, and COO particularly) are great guys who get to know their employees. The people here really make the company. The salary for technical professionals is competitive with other companies and the benefits are in many cases better than other petroleum companies. There is no pressure to outside the standard working hours but often it happens because people enjoy their jobs and the people they work with.

Cons

Office structure can limit working with other groups or people within the company. Additionally there seems to be some resistance to new ideas from different levels of management that can be a bit frustrating at times.

Pros

SM is well equiped with great CEO and CFO. SM has great benfits and positive work environment that are enjoyable to be a part of. Flexible schedules that allow for a family friendly environment.

Cons

The salary is on the low end of the industry. Some of the departments are over stocked and has a aging workforce. Additionally, there is a lot of focus on goals that seem to be set purposely low and easily accoplished with little room for growth. VERY tough to move around within the company to gain professional experience.
