Pros

SMS is truly a family environment. A mark of a great company is employee longevity. I was amazed to see that SMS employees have been with the company on average 9 plus years. They understand that everyone employee has value and has a voice. They treat every employee with dignity and respect. The goal is to grow the company but maintain the culture which allowed them to get to this point in company growth.

Cons

Multiple geographically located contracts does hamper the ability to allow employees in remote locations a good career path within the company. SMS still provides training to those employees to enhance their career wherever it may take them.

Management interference is low Good HR benefits Great communication and working atmosphere

Cons

Cheap on salaries, below industry standards Often works under other companies. Educational program is "Our dime your time" You won't get a week off to go to day school to get that next cert, you will have to burn PTO Low accumulation on Paid Time Off, no personal days ever. Don't expect a pay raise past 1 % even if you know alchemy and can convert lead into gold. "Self Rating" Scheme 1-5, you won't get anything but 3. 4-5 is impossible no matter how experienced, educated or motivated you are.

SMS was a good company to work for. I enjoyed my time while working there with the great people they employ.

Cons

I never had any issues, so I don't see any cons.
